It’s a new year and we know you want to start it right.. In this week’s Beauty Buzz column, make up artist Anthony Adams shares his tips on creating flawless skin, reducing fine lines and his favourite go to skin care brand!

Happy New Year everyone! I hope that you all had an amazing time and were surrounded by loved ones.

This week I will be writing about skincare. This subject is a crucial one for most of us, given that the skin is the largest organ of the human body. It protects us from external forces and also gives us the sense of touch.

For most of us, our skin is important, purely as it is one of the first things we see of each other. And there is no denying that when you see beautiful skin, it is truly impressive.

You too can have beautiful glowing skin like Miranda!

There are five skin types. So you can define what yours is, here’s a basic description of each:

Normal- this is the skin most of us envy: it is hydrated, refined and often has no problems such as blemishes or spots.

Dry- typically dry skin is exactly that: dry. It wrinkles more easily, it can sometimes be flakey and itchy, as well as being prone to other conditions such as dermatitis or eczema.

Oily- oily skins tend to be plagued with pimples or acne due to the excessive oils being produced in the skin. It tends to be shiny and can be very problematic for some.

Combination- this is quite a common skin type, with some people having normal skin, apart from the T-zone area (along the nose, forehead and cheeks). It can also be a combination of normal/dry etc.

Sensitive- this is the skin I was dealt! We are the ones who tend to have irritated skin, are prone to redness and have to watch what products we use, due to reactions and irritations.

This should give you a general idea of what skin type you fall under. The next step is to shop for products suited to your skin and which will combat your personal skin issues.

Most of us do not take enough care of our skin, and after working in the beauty industry for so many years now, I can tell you that it is essential!

I started using products in my late 20s and wish I had started earlier, as I am always reminded I don’t look my age.

Currently I have been using some amazing products thanks to our friends over at Kiehl’s. They provided me with the Abyssine Cream + and the Line Reducing Eye Brightening Concentrate. After using these brilliant products for a few weeks I have seen a significant change not only in the texture of my skin but also a noticeable difference in the fine lines and wrinkles. The amazing thing about the eye cream is it really does brighten the area around the skin. Once plagued by dark circles, the area is now light, supple skin!

The products from Kiehl’s are not only phenomenal and affordable, they are also based on naturally derived ingredients, and they have been making these products since 1851.

There are millions of products on the market to cater to your skin care needs, but my personal suggestion for anyone over 20 is to have a cleanser, moisturiser and eye cream. These to me would be your basics, as you could go all out with toners, serums and the like! Just using the basics suggested will make a huge difference to your skin and also aid in warding off wrinkles and fine lines.

With some products you do get what you pay for, but luckily you can also find some fantastic products at low prices and probably the best suggestion is that simple is best. Check ingredients and ensure you’re not loading too many chemicals onto your skin, as you may notice great differences in your skin, but in years to come who knows the effects of these!

If you have any questions regarding your own skin, products or anything else beauty related, remember you can shoot me an email at [email protected].

So why not start the new year by putting your best face forward, and start treating your skin with the care it deserves!

Enjoy and Happy New Year!
