Meet Nicole TJ, the Melbourne fashion blogger and stylist behind our latest e-obsession Blankbird. Melbourne correspondent Cassandra Dinino and photographer Sebastian Petrovski recently took a spin through Nicole’s wardrobe to discover her signature style. And yes, we’re all left with pure fashion envy!

TUS: How would you describe your personal style?
TJ: I would have to say my style is quite relaxed and easy with a bit of a kick, be it a splash of hot pink or jacquard detailing. I love playing with tonal colours and similar hues within an outfit, mixing colour, print and texture to create looks that range from understated to loud, and everything in between!

How would you describe your wardrobe’s aesthetic?
I try and colour code my wardrobe as much as I can. I also have a separate section for folded knits and denim.

Where do you find your fashion inspiration?
I get most of my fashion inspiration just through my everyday surroundings. Whether it’s a beautiful landscape, great photography, street style from people around me or the daily blogs I read and follow. My mind then does a wonderful thing of bringing together seemingly random or unrelated pieces. It’s sometimes strange, but wonderfully satisfying when it works out.

What is your most-loved wardrobe piece?
I have  a white blazer from Portmans which I adore – it’s simple and clean and goes with absolutely everything. White is the new black!

What is your go-to outfit for a night out?
A skirt and embellished top are normally my go-to; I also have a fuchsia bodycon dress I absolutely love. It’s something different and not what I would normally wear, but it’s great for a bit of fun!

And your go-to outfit for brunch with the girls?
Usually something quite relaxed and easy, like harem pants with a singlet and ballet flats.

What three staples should every girl have in her wardrobe this Autumn/Winter?
Definitely a bright scarf! I have a hot pink one from Sportsgirl which I add to dark Winter outfits for a pop of colour. Every girl should have a great rotation of pants, whether they’re printed pieces, skinny denim or harem, and a classic investment coat.

What’s your reliable fall back outfit when you’re having one of those days?
I love my pants (the ones with a bit of slouch so you almost feel like you’re still lounging around in your PJs), so normally these with a knit jumper to keep me cosy.

Biggest splurge?
I love the variety on the high street, so I tend not to splurge on high-priced designer pieces too much. Although, my recent splurge on a Michael Kors watch has proven itself to be a very worthy purchase!

Best bargain?
One of my best buys to date would have to be a pair of brogues I purchased off eBay – colour blocked in shades of brown, and only $9! They’ve lasted me a good two years.

Where are the best places to shop in Melbourne?
I love Chapel St for iconic Australian designer boutiques like Alice McCall and Life with Bird, not to mention the many café options in the area, and Chadstone Shopping Centre for a leisurely shop in a beautiful space.

What was your last purchase?
My amazing KG by Kurt Geiger platform sandals off ASOS – at $80 I couldn’t justify NOT getting them.

How do you accessorise?
Pretty simply; usually with scarves and bags to add pops of colour to my day. With jewellery I mix and match fine delicate necklaces and rings – those little pieces do wonders in tying together an outfit.

Do you shop for quality or quantity?
Usually I aim for a happy compromise of the two! I simply wouldn’t be able to sustain my shopaholic fancies otherwise.

Who is your style icon?
I can’t say I have one particular style icon. Two of my favourite bloggers are Gary Pepper and fashiontoast – they both have vastly different styles and I wouldn’t say I dress after either of them but they definitely leave me inspired!
